On May 21, 2024, it was approved for the treatment of adult patients with type 2 diabetes whose glycemic control was inadequate with metformin and/or sulfonylureas. On June 30, 2025, a new indication was approved, making it the first prescription drug for the treatment of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in obese adult patients.

Core Approved Indications

1. Type 2 Diabetes: For adults with type 2 diabetes whose blood glucose is poorly controlled despite treatment with metformin and/or sulfonylureas, in addition to diet and exercise.

2. Obesity: For adults with chronic weight management (weight loss and maintenance), suitable for patients with a body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m² (obese) or a BMI ≥27 kg/m² with at least one weight-related complication (such as hypertension or type 2 diabetes).

3. Adults with obesity and moderate to severe OSA: To reduce the risk of upper airway obstruction and improve the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) by significantly reducing weight (especially visceral fat).

Potential/Investigational Indications

● Pre-transplant weight management: As a non-surgical alternative for severely obese patients (BMI ≥ 35 kg/m²) who require organ transplantation;

● Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH): In clinical trials to reduce hepatic fat accumulation and improve liver function;

● Peripheral vascular disease: In investigational stages to alleviate limb ischemia symptoms in patients with lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans (PAD) by improving insulin resistance and inflammatory response.
